Petr Cech set for discussions over his Chelsea future under the Boehly-Clearlake administration
Chelsea’s boardroom reshuffle is not entirely complete yet. One executive whose future remains unclear at this time is the club’s current Technical and Performance advisor and bonafide Chelsea legend Petr Cech.
The legendary goalkeeper returned to Stamford Bridge in 2019 following his retirement but this time as a sporting executive. Cech was appointed to the role by Chelsea’s outgoing Director Marina Granovskaia.
The Blues, in an official statement, recently made public their new panel of board members. Todd Boehly has assumed the vacant chairmanship left behind by Bruce Buck, besides being named the interim Sporting Director until a permanent appointment is made on that front.
Previously during the Roman Abramovich era, there was no title of a Sporting Director at Chelsea. Marina Granovskaia signed off on all transfers with advice from Cech and the club’s scouts.
Now with the internal structure of the club being completely changed, Cech’s current job title will need to be redefined according to GOAL (h/t Football London).
The 40-year-old’s legendary status and incredible football mind are definitely going to factor into Boehly’s final decision, with the co-owner being well aware of the value he can provide to the club, albeit under a different job title.
Will Cech stay on at Chelsea but in a different role?
With the club set to hire a permanent Sporting Director in the near future, that appointment in turn is going to need an assistant. Cech is most definitely going to fit into that role seamlessly.
Since hanging up his gloves and putting on a suit, Cech has gone on to become a seasoned sporting executive and has been behind a few of Chelsea’s most high-profile signings.

Boehly is well aware of his incredible career as a professional and his highly accomplished spell behind the scenes, so it is very likely that Cech will stay on. In all likelihood, his job title is going to change but not necessarily influence.
The Blues are slowly starting to get back to the transfer market, so we can expect an official clarification on Cech’s future very soon.
