PL boss admits he’s unsure about the future of 17-goal Chelsea target

Pep Guardiola unsure on Raheem Sterling future amid Chelsea links

Chelsea have been linked with a move for Manchester City star Raheem Sterling in recent days and with the transfer window officially opening on Friday, this news is starting to gather momentum.

The Blues are on the hunt for a forward who can operate out wide and excel in the role. Sterling scored 17 goals and provided nine assists across 47 appearances in all competitions despite having a reduced role at the Etihad last season.

Thomas Tuchel’s side could do with the presence of the 26-year-old, who knows all about the Premier League and also West London, where he spent about seven of his formative years during his time at the Queen’s Park Rangers academy.

However, his exit from Man City is likely going to come at the price of Chelsea, or whichever club is interested in signing him, delivering assurances on game-time and his future.

According to Football London, City boss Pep Guardiola has admitted that he “doesn’t know” if Sterling will stay at the club next season.

“In the future? I don’t know what will happen. The club decides. When the club extends contracts, I give my opinion, but the club takes the decision, always.”

Sterling’s teammate Gabriel Jesus has also been linked to Chelsea, as more clubs begin to join the fray for the Brazilian striker. The latest update is that AC Milan have joined the chase for Jesus.

Could the Blues sign two players from the Premier League champions? If it was down to Chelsea fans and they had to pick one out of the two, they would perhaps struggle to give a clear answer.

Is Sterling going to make a difference to Chelsea’s misfiring attack?

The England international who has contributed to and enjoyed phenomenal success at Man City has played only a supporting role at the Etihad last season.

He was excluded from the Starting XI of both legs of City’s Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid, amongst other important games.

Sterling is likely to demand assurances from his next club that a similar situation won’t arise. The same could apply to Jesus. Otherwise, it won’t make a lot of sense to leave a club that is regularly winning trophies.

Whether the pair solves Chelsea’s crisis up front remains to be seen, but their track record suggests that there’s no reason to not be hopeful. It won’t be an easy road to sign the two, or even one of them, as City would know they could, in turn, strengthen a direct PL rival.
