Napoli star Kalidou Koulibaly has given his thoughts on his future options amidst links to Chelsea for a potential transfer. His tenure at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona is in uncertain waters at this moment, and the defender has issued his response regarding this situation.
Thomas Tuchel is forced to restructure his defence following Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger’s exit this summer. That being said, he is believed to be backed in the market by a massive £200million investment which would go a long way in addressing the issue. Now, Koulibaly has hinted on whether he could be an arrival for them ahead of the next season.
Speaking in an open interview as quoted by Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Koulibaly has left the door open for a departure from Naples in the summer transfer window. The defender has conveyed that he will assess the options ahead of him after his international duty with Senegal in the coming weeks.
“I won’t lie to you, I don’t know what’s gonna happen with my future. I was focused on Senegal then now we’ll see what happens.”
The Blues would be delighted to know that the Senegalese international has not closed the door to an exit from Luciano Spalletti’s side this summer. That could pave the way for the English side to try their chances with Napoli to facilitate a transfer move ahead of the upcoming campaign.
The 30-year-old is out of contract at the end of the next season, which means that perhaps the Italian club could be convinced to part ways with him in a cut-price move this summer. After all, they will be losing him for free if a renewal doesnot take place before his deal expires.
Romano has revealed that the Serie A side have already proposed an extension offer to the African superstar to keep hold of him moving forward. As such, we must make our case with Koulibaly at the earliest and convince him to reject their proposal and push for a move to Stamford Bridge.
Koulibaly would be a perfect replacement for Rudiger, considering how the defensive duo are in their prime years at this instant. Furthermore, both of them are quite physical in nature and are even similar in terms of their imposing style of play on their opponents.
The defence has always been our biggest strength under Tuchel and losing key stars like Christensen would be a blow indeed. As such, we must fill the gap that their exits would leave as soon as possible, with Koulibaly being one of the options who can plug that hole with his immense defensive attributes.
