English midfielder Conor Gallagher opens up on his future at Chelsea after Crystal Palace loan spell
According to BBC’s Football Daily (h/t The Mirror), Chelsea star Conor Gallagher has refused to rule out leaving Stamford Bridge on loan once again this summer.
The 22-year-old came through the ranks at Cobham and is one of the finest young midfielders in the country today. He has undergone four different loan spells, the latest of which came at Crystal Palace last season where he was excellent.
Playing under Patrick Vieira proved to be an excellent performance as Gallagher enjoyed a successful season at Selhurst Park. He also helped them to the FA Cup semifinal and was voted the club’s player of the season.
Gallagher is set to return to Stamford Bridge as Thomas Tuchel plans a summer revamp. The German could be ready to hand the youngster an opportunity to make a case for himself as a first-team player.
Out again?
The player for his part hasn’t given it much thought and admits to as much. Currently, on England duty, he has the right to enjoy his call up to the big stage and focus on his Chelsea future once he returns.
“I’ve not really had time (to think), to be honest. It’s been a long season at Palace. I’ve only just finished really, then I’ve come here with England. That’s all I’m thinking about for the next four matches here, and I want to do well. I’ve not really thought about it.”
Gallagher admits that the loan spells have largely aided in his progression as a footballer. Given his performances on the field, it is difficult to argue with that assessment.
Curiously, he goes on to refute that there will be no more loan spells awaiting him. It remains to be seen what Gallagher decides to do should Chelsea deem him unready to take on the first team mantle.
“I don’t know to be honest with you, the loans have been brilliant, and every team has been a brilliant experience. To me, all the new players, the staff and managers have helped me progress and develop as a player – I’ve loved it. But like I said, I’m not sure.”

N’Golo Kante and Jorginho are not getting any younger and we will need to replace them sooner or later. Gallagher’s presence gives Tuchel an option to consider from within the ranks. Whether the 22-year-old can make a case for himself remains to be seen.
