“Come here”- Chelsea backed to make a summer move for exit-bound PL superstar

Chelsea backed to make a summer move for Manchester United star Paul Pogba by Darrent Bent

According to talkSPORT( h/t football.london), Darren Bent has backed Chelsea to make a move for Manchester United star Paul Pogba in the summer transfer window.

The French international’s contract at Manchester United will expire at the end of this month, following which he will leave for pastures new. One of the finest players in world football on his day, Pogba has struggled to justify Man United’s faith in him the last few years.

Juventus have been touted as the favourites to land the 29-year-old’s services. It will be a massive coup for the Italians who sold the Frenchman to the Red Devils back in 2016 for a then-record fee.

Despite his struggles in England, Bent believes Chelsea could do with a player of Pogba’s abilities. He also went on to add that the Blues players would welcome the Frenchman’s addition to their roster.

“There will be a real admiration for Paul Pogba amongst other players in the Premier League from the players who have played against him. Other players in that Chelsea squad will think; ‘I would love a player like that to come here.”

The former English international also has named Liverpool as a potential destination. Moving to Anfield would certainly rub Man United fans off the wrong way.

Bent’s comments cannot be dismissed out of hand as Chelsea do need young blood in their midfield. While Pogba is not a young player, he is in his prime and would be a world-class addition.

His time at Old Trafford showed that the player was largely ill-managed. He was a different beast for France and could rediscover that same form at the club level under the right guidance.

N’Golo Kante and Pogba have built up a solid partnership on the international stage for France, leading them to the FIFA World Cup in 2018. The chance of seeing them rekindle that in Blue at Stamford Bridge may not be very high.

But this is the kind of signing that would really underline Tuchel’s intentions to make the Blues a dynasty under new owner Todd Boehly.
