Chelsea duo Reece James and Conor Gallagher have been nominated for the PFA Young Player of the Year award
According to The Metro, Chelsea stars Reece James and Conor Gallagher have both been nominated for this season’s PFA Young Player of the Year award.
The Blues endured a difficult season that saw them end with just the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup for their efforts. They made it to the finals of the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup, but failed to get past Liverpool on both days.
Thomas Tuchel’s men also suffered a heartbreaking end to their Champions League defence and finished third in the Premier League. The fact that we stayed honest on the field despite struggles off it is commendable.
James is already one of the finest full-backs in the league and the nomination is a clear indication of his prowess. The Englishman also spent a small part of the season out injured making his nomination all the more impressive.
The 22-year-old made 39 appearances all season, scoring six goals and assisting 10 more. His efforts would have gotten more recognition had it not been for Liverpool duo Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson who both finished higher up on the assist table.
James is a worthy candidate to win the title and will hopefully have a real shot of securing glory. It will be his first such accolade should he go all the way.
Chelsea loanee Conor Gallagher spent the 2021/22 season out on loan at Crystal Palace. The midfielder also impressed and was even voted the Eagles’ player of the season. He stood out under Patrick Vieira and continued to go from strength to strength.
The 22-year-old made 39 appearances for the Selhurst Park outfit across all competitions, scoring eight goals and assisting five more. It is fair to say that Gallagher is also a potentially worthy winner of the gong and that will be a big boost for his confidence when he returns to the Bridge this summer.

The other players in the fray include Arsenal trio Bykayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe, Manchester City’s Phil Foden and Aston Villa’s Jacob Ramsey. Eden Hazard was the last Chelsea player to win the award back in 2014. Hopefully, James or Gallagher will follow in the Belgian’s footsteps.
