Transfer News: Chelsea confident of signing Raheem Sterling from Manchester City
Raheem Sterling could be a new Chelsea player as the Blues are confident of securing his signature from Manchester City. Gianluca Di Marzio has given an update on a possible deal and claims the transfer fee could be around £35million.
Sterling is very high on Chelsea’s wishlist for this summer with his contract expiring in June 2023. The Englishman is admired by Thomas Tuchel who is looking to bolster the Blues’ attacking options for next season.
A good addition for Chelsea?
The possible signing of Sterling is a step in the right direction. Chelsea look to part ways with Romelu Lukaku and other attacking options apart from Kai Havertz have been underwhelming.
If indeed the English winger makes a move to Stamford Bridge, it could open the doors for some of those who seem unhappy with their lack of playing time up front. The likes of Christian Pulisic, Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech could possibly lose further playing time with the addition of Sterling to the squad.
Over the last two seasons, the England international has appeared in 96 games for the Cityzens with a respectable total of 31 goals and 21 assists. His quality in the attacking third is undeniable, although those who’ve seen him regularly would argue that he does miss his fair share of chances in front of goal.
Lukaku’s fairytale start to the season, scoring 3 goals in his first three matches soon came to a halt. He scored 15 goals in 44 appearances for Chelsea. The Belgian’s much-anticipated move from Inter Milan hasn’t lived up to expectations and the striker is keen to return to his former club.
Sterling will look to be a starter wherever he goes. He hasn’t been the first choice for Pep Guardiola this season and it’s possible that his time at the Etihad may come to an end this summer with a move to the Bridge looking likely.

The 27-year-old will surely be a good addition with his ability to keep opposing defences on their toes with his pace. With Ousmane Dembele‘s injury record being a concern for the Blues, a move for Sterling is the safe option for us.
