Chelsea approach Italian behemoths to discuss a potential move for 27-year-old defender

Transfer News: Chelsea make contact with Inter Milan over Milan Skriniar move

According to Mail Online, Chelsea have been in contact with Inter Milan regarding a potential transfer for Milan Skriniar this summer. He has been one of the key backbones for his side over the past few years, which has seen them become title contenders once again after a long spell of trophyless seasons.

Thomas Tuchel is set to be backed in the summer transfer window following the exodus that could take place in the backline. They have already been linked with the likes of Jules Kounde and Matthijs de Ligt to reinforce their defence ahead of the next campaign. Now, it looks like they are targeting Skriniar as well to meet their needs.

The Blues have enquired about Skriniar with Inter as they look to facilitate a move for him in the upcoming transfer window. However, in a blow for the English side, it is stated that both clubs are far apart when it comes to his valuation as of now. That could be a problem with Tottenham Hotspur also chasing the central defender.

Should Chelsea maintain interest in Skriniar?

Since we are bound to lose Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger this summer, it is imperative to replace two key players in the squad with top-quality additions. That could be an issue considering how it is always difficult to acquire players in this category and may be expensive as well.

That seems to be the case in Skriniar’s situation since the Nerazzurri are not on the same page with us regarding his asking price. While the West London side are set to back Tuchel with a £200million war chest, we must remain reasonable with our spending since several areas need improvements this summer.

The Slovakian has gained valuable top-flight experience over the years, which alongside his leadership, would make him a perfect signing under the current circumstances. After all, the 27-year-old is in line to enter the prime years of his playing career, which is suitable for our squad composition.

Fortunately, we have other options on the shortlist like Kounde and de Ligt, which does give us some leeway even if we are forced to end our interest in Skriniar. At the same time, Spurs are also expected to be boosted financially this summer, which gives more reason for us to reach a quick decision regarding the Serie A superstar.

Kounde is stated to be our priority target which could determine how our pursuit in Skriniar develops in the coming weeks. One could say that we need to sign both of them, but the expense would probably be too much to meet in a single transfer window.
