Chelsea join Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur in pursuit of Manchester City star Gabriel Jesus

According to Mail Online, Chelsea have joined Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur in pursuit of Manchester City star Gabriel Jesus to sign him in the summer transfer window. His future has been up in the air following Erling Haaland’s £51million transfer, which will see him move to Etihad Stadium in the coming weeks.

Man City are willing to part ways with Jesus this summer which has alerted several major clubs across Europe. Spurs and the Gunners are among them, and now the Blues have also entered the fray. Real Madrid are also in the running while Atletico Madrid have also been offered his services.

It is claimed that Thomas Tuchel’s side are strongly interested in signing the Brazilian striker this summer. In fact, they are even preparing an offer for Jesus to make a quick move once the transfer restrictions are lifted in the future. That being said, the race remains open even now, so it will be interesting to see where he ends up playing in the next campaign.

Do Chelsea need Jesus?

Most of our attackers have failed to showcase their quality to the full extent consistently enough for quite some time. Apart from some glimpses here and there, and some purple patches, there have not been any reliable options for Tuchel to choose from in our ranks.

The likes of Timo Werner, Romelu Lukaku, Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech have all struggled to live up to the expectations in which they arrived at Stamford Bridge. As such, perhaps, it would be best to take some harsh decisions as they have underperformed for quite a while now.

While the defence should remain our priority for this summer, attacking signings can be made if we can sell some fringe players from the forward areas. Jesus would undoubtedly be a great addition indeed, as his versatility to play anywhere in the attack without a drop in quality suits Tuchel’s flexible tactics in the frontline.

What’s more, the 25-year-old attacker has garnered an impressive output of 13 goals and 12 assists from 2570 minutes across all competitions last season despite playing a bit-part role for most of the campaign. That is quite a solid return indeed in comparison to how our attackers have performed during that period.

Now, our focus should be to pip the competition in this transfer race, although that could be difficult due to the imposed limitations. Our rivals could pull away in this pursuit as we remain helpless to watch them for now until the restrictions are lifted moving forward.

Fortunately, it seems that Atletico have not accepted the proposal just yet, while Real’s non-EU slots are already filled, leaving the two North London sides in the mix. It would be in our best interest if there would not be any substantial developments in this race until we can register ourselves in the coming weeks.
