Chelsea are interested in signing London based ace should they miss out on Dembele

Chelsea are interested in signing Jarrod Bowen in case they fail to lure Ousmane Dembele

According to a report by 90min via The Hard Tackle (h/t Football.London), Chelsea have shortlisted West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen as a backup option if their Ousmane Dembele pursuit fails.

Chelsea are interested in signing the Frenchman in the summer transfer window. He is expected to end his partnership with the Catalan outfit in the summer transfer window, but his huge wages make it difficult for the Blues to sign him in the summer window.

In case Chelsea misses out on Dembele, they have made West Ham United’s Jarrod Bowen an alternative target. However, even the Englishman would be hard to sign as he has a contract with the Hammers until 2025 and is also attracting interest from Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool.

Who should Chelsea sign?

Bowen has been a stand-out performer for West Ham in recent seasons. Securing 18 goals and providing 13 assists, the Englishman helped his team win some crucial matches. His sensational output hasn’t gone unnoticed by Gareth Southgate as the England manager has awarded him his maiden national call-up.

On the other hand, Dembele’s performance in recent campaigns hasn’t been much spectacular. The majority of the time during his Barcelona spell, the 25-year-old remained injured making him unavailable for first-team action. Even last season, he has only started 15 games for the Catalan outfit.

On top of that Dembele hasn’t played in the Premier League, which makes him a risky bet in comparison to Bowen. Even before joining West Ham, the Englishman was a regular performer in the Championship with Hull City.

Ousmane Dembele would be hard to achieve for Chelsea.

Considering the aforementioned reasons, it seems much more suitable for Chelsea to sign Bowen. Blues’ frontline hasn’t performed on the expected level in the last term and might be boosted with the arrival of the Hammers star.

Bowen would also create a competitive environment in the team which could have an advantageous effect on the Chelsea forwards as they would be much more motivated to give their best when there would be a risk of losing their spot if they don’t.

However, none of them would be an easy transfer for Chelsea. The Blues’ internal scenario at the club has improved after the arrival of new owners. It remains to be seen how much they agree to spend on transfer as it would have a huge impact on the team’s chances of fielding a strong team next season.
