According to GOAL (h/t Football.London), Newcastle United, West Ham United and Southampton are set to be in a transfer battle for talented Chelsea striker Armando Broja.
The Albanian has been out on loan at Southampton this season and to say that he has impressed will be an understatement. Broja has been the key man of Ralph Hassenhutl’s team this season scoring many crucial goals along the way.
The 20-year-old striker has played 38 times for the Saints this season scoring nine goals and providing one assist across all competitions during this period. Whilst his goal output has diminished in the latter part of the season, these are still impressive numbers for someone of his age.
The talented forward is set to return to Stamford Bridge at the end of this season and it remains to be seen if he has a role in the first team under Thomas Tuchel. Nevertheless, if the Albanian is to leave the Blues, he is definitely not short of options.
While it is still not evident if Broja will have a role with us in the first team next season, he has done enough to warrant a chance at the very least. The Blues, after all, do lack an infallible scorer with both Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner struggling for form.
Our struggles in front of goal have been well documented this season with both Werner and Lukaku having indifferent seasons at the best. This has meant that we have had to depend on other areas of the pitch for goals which is clearly not a good sign.
Even if either player ends up staying, it is likely that we have another option for the striker’s position who can cover for either when they need to be rotated. For such a scenario, Broja perfectly fits the bill to could have a role to serve next season.
It is clear that Chelsea sees some spark in the Albanian having given him a contract till 2026 before loaning him out this campaign. He has validated their belief by impressing at St Mary’s and will be eager to put in similar performances in a Blues shirt. However, if the club decides to cash in on him, many English teams are waiting to pounce on the opportunity.
It remains to be seen as to what happens with Broja in the future. We must not repeat the mistake we made with Tammy Abraham by rushing into selling Broja. At the least, we hope he is given a chance to show what he is capable of in a Chelsea shirt. If not, he is definitely bound to succeed elsewhere.
