According to Gazzetta dello Sport(h/t Daily Mail), Juventus are said to be plotting a move for Chelsea midfielder Jorginho with the Italian star said to be keen on a move away from Stamford Bridge.
The Serie A club are said to be looking to revamp their midfield after failing to win the Italian championship for two years in a row. Jorginho is said to be on top of their shopping list along with Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba.
The 30-year-old joined the Blues from Napoli in 2018 and initially enjoyed a rough start to life in London. He has since gone on to become a key cog in the Chelsea midfield, especially under Thomas Tuchel. The deep-lying playmaker had a very impressive last season which saw him win the Champions League with the club and later the Euro 2020 title with Italy.
This season, Jorginho has not been as consistent as he usually is and has also drawn his fair share of criticism for some underwhelming performances. The Italian has still managed to rake up 46 appearances for the Blues scoring nine goals and assisting four times during this period.
With Juventus said to be keen on bringing the Italian back to his home country, Chelsea will be forced to make a decision this summer. Jorginho’s contract at Stamford Bridge expires next summer and this is as good a time as any to cash in on him.
As good as Jorginho is, there is no doubt that age is finally catching up with Italian. Cashing in on him right now seems to make a lot of sense for us, especially so given the new era we are likely to enter under Todd Boehly.
Two of our first-choice midfielders in N’Golo Kante and Jorginho have contracts that expire next summer and we will be forced to make decisions with both the players soon. Whilst the Frenchman seems to be closer to staying, Jorginho is said to be tempted to leave England.
We have two of the most talented young midfielders in England in Conor Gallagher and Billy Gilmour who will be returning from their loan spells. The latter is perfectly equipped to take over from the Italian if he were to leave the club.
Ruben Loftus Cheek and Ross Barkley have failed to convince with their performances whilst Saul Niguez is expected to return to Atletico Madrid when his loan spell ends. The Blues might be forced to procure a replacement in midfield but that does not mean that we must not cash in on Jorginho.
Whilst there is no doubt that the Italian still has a lot to offer, age is catching up with him. If we want to get the best value for money for the midfielder, now is the time to sell. Jorginho is great, but not irreplaceable. If he were to leave, we can handle the situation.
