20-year-old Croatian ace on Chelsea’s keen to stay put in Germany

Transfer News: Chelsea target Josko Gvardiol is keen to stay in Germany

According to Absolute Chelsea on Twitter (h/t Football.London), Chelsea target Josko Gvardiol might be set to stay with his current team RB Leipzig this summer as he is happy to continue playing in Germany.

The Croatian centre-back has performed extensively for RB Leipzig in the 2021/22 season, which hasn’t gone unnoticed by Chelsea. He has featured in 46 matches across all competitions and has emerged as a key target in Chelsea’s defensive reshape.

Even though the Blues are interested in Gvardiol, they might not be able to convince the 20-year-old to make the switch to Stamford Bridge. Gvaridol feels happy and comfortable at Leipzig and might decide to stay put for now.

Big Blow for Chelsea?

Chelsea will lose Antonio Rüdiger and Andreas Christensen in the summer window once their contracts expire. Amid such a situation, the Blues will be required to bring reinforcements to fill up the void in defence.

Even though Trevoh Chalobah has given some good performances in this campaign, he might not be ready to take up the role of a regular in the first-team setup yet. Malang Sarr’s performance has quite dropped in recent games and his failure to step up when required is telling.

César Azpilicueta used to provide the backup for the centre-back role when required, the However, as the Spaniard could also leave the club in the summer. This if anything makes Tuchel’s position unenviable.

Amid such a situation, Chelsea are in desperate need of centre-back reinforcements. Even though they are expected to complete the transfer of Jules Kounde in the coming days, his arrival might not be enough to fill the vortex.

Gvardiol has put in matured performances and had stepped in expertly following Leipzig’s summer sale of Dayot Upamcecno and Ibrahima Konate last year. The Croatian might have been an incredible addition to Thomas Tuchel’s defensive contingent.

However, he seems to be interested in staying in Germany instead of an away move. Hence, Chelsea might not be able to secure his move. Hence they should focus on other targets who can provide a huge impact upon joining.
