Chelsea could make a move for four-time UCL winner playing in Spain

Transfer News: Chelsea interested in signing Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro

According to Mirror (h/t Football.London), Chelsea are interested in reinforcing their midfield by signing Brazilian defensive midfielder Casemiro from Spanish giants Real Madrid.

The Blues will learn about the availability of the 30-year-old after the conclusion of the Champions League final in which the Brazilian is expected to take the field against Liverpool. The holding midfielder has been a mainstay in Los Blancos’ midfield for many years now.

This season, Casemiro has been as spectacular as he has been in the past few years playing a pivotal role in the Spanish giants’ successful pursuit of La Liga and a Champions League run for the ages. He has played 45 times for Real Madrid scoring one goal and setting up four during this time.

Casemiro is a star at Real Madrid.

The 30-year-old who has a contract with Los Blancos till 2025 wants a bumper contract to stay at Madrid but club president Florentino Perez is adamant about not giving his star midfielder one. This might pave the way for Chelsea to enter the race for the talented Brazilian who has won four UCL titles during his stay in Madrid.

A very good signing?

Chelsea have a bit of a dilemma in midfield with Jorginho and Kante yet to agree to new deals at the club. Both midfielders have contracts expiring next summer and if they pen down new deals, it’ll be essential for the Blues to make sure they have lined up replacements.

In Casemiro, the Blues will be getting a player with a truckload of experience and someone who has been a part of a serial title-winning team. He could just be the calming influence in a relatively young Chelsea squad and a wise head in the dressing room.

Casemiro could be set for a move away from Madrid

At 30, the Brazilian still has many years of top-flight football left in him and he would turn out to be a very shrewd signing for Thomas Tuchel’s men. A midfield destroyer, Casemiro is known for making last-ditch tackles and has a reputation for bailing his team out of trouble regularly.

Having a contract until 2025, Real Madrid know they have the ball in their court if it comes to demanding a handsome fee for him. It is certainly a surprise to hear that there is a possibility of Casemiro leaving Santiago Bernabeu given how irreplaceable he has been over the years and is younger than Luka Modric and Toni Kroos.

Whilst it’s still not sure if Casemiro will indeed leave if he wishes to, there is little doubt that Chelsea fans would be in favour of such a move. At the right price, signing the Brazilian is a no-brainer. It remains to be seen what happens with the situation though.
