According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo via Barcauniversal (h/t Football.London), Chelsea are closing in on a move for talented Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele on a free transfer this summer.
The French winger joined Barcelona from Borussia Dortmund in 2017 and has since then gone on to have a very mixed time at the Catalan club. Whilst his talent has never been in doubt, injuries have not allowed the former Rennes man to realise his potential.
The 25-year-old has been a player reborn this season under Xavi Hernandez and is finally fulfilling the potential that made Barcelona sign him back in 2017. The talented winger has made 32 appearances for the Spanish giants this season scoring two goals and providing 13 assists across all competitions.
Dembele is out of contract with Barcelona this summer and is yet to pen down a new deal with the Spanish giants. Whilst his future at Camp Nou is not ruled out yet, it seems like the talented Frenchman is on his way to Stamford Bridge.
Anybody who has seen Dembele play, especially over the last few months will know the kind of talent the French winger possesses.
A skillful dribbler who has an eye for a pass, Dembele’s two-footedness means he could do a job on either wing without any issue. During his time in France, Germany, and now in Spain, he has shown he has what it takes to become one of the world’s best.
Signing Dembele, especially on a free should be a no-brainer for the Blues. At 25, he still has the world in front of him and a potential reunion with a coach who managed to get the best out of him during his time at Dortmund could do him the world of good.
Despite a less than favourable injury record, the kind of magic that he can produce when fit is likely to tilt the balance in favour of Dembele. He would be a great addition to the current Blues squad and will definitely be worth a signing.
A stay at Barcelona is still not ruled out but if Dembele is indeed available, the Blues must snap him up without an iota of doubt.
