According to The Guardian, Chelsea are currently monitoring the situation of Bayern Munich star Robert Lewandowski amidst interest from Barcelona for a potential transfer. His future is up for grabs after he has conveyed his desire to leave Allianz Arena at the end of this season.
Lewandowski will see his current contract with Bayern Munchen expire in the summer of 2023. He is interested in joining Barca, and he supposedly agreed to a three year deal with the Catalans. The Spanish club are looking to facilitate a transfer, but the Bundesliga side insists that he will not be solid after this term.
Bayern also believes that the La Liga side would not be able to meet their valuation due to their financially stricken situation. If such issues persist moving forward, the Blues could enter the fray, and the Polish striker could be forced to consider a transfer to the Premier League. That being said, his chances of moving to Stamford Bridge are stated to be slim at this moment.
Our priority should simply be on our defence, considering how Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger are set to join Barcelona and Real Madrid this summer, respectively. Moreover, Cesar Azpilicueta could also follow suit at the end of the current campaign giving all the more reasons for the West Londoners to focus on the backline.
Furthermore, one could even say that Thomas Tuchel’s side are desperate for quality backup options in both wing-back areas as well. In such a case, it may not be wise to target Lewandowski, especially when uncertainties still exist over our finances even after the club’s takeover is completed by Todd Boehly’s consortium.
Tuchel is claimed to be a keen admirer of the Bundesliga superstar, which is certainly understandable looking at his outrageous return this term. After all, scoring 50 goals and assisting seven times this season from 46 appearances across all competitions is no easy feat.
Our attack has often let the team down on several occasions, which has been the case recently as well. The supporters are left to rue the missed chances against Liverpool in the FA Cup final, and one could say having someone like the Bayern ace could solve those problems to a great extent.
However, our defensive issues, delay in the finalisation of the club’s sale and the Polish international’s preference to move to Camp Nou act against our interests. Unless we could part ways with struggling stars like Romelu Lukaku or Timo Werner, targeting Lewandowski should not be given priority this summer.
