According to the Sun, Chelsea are said to be interested in signing Finnish midfielder Luka Hyrylainen from Eintracht Frankfurt once the current sanctions on them are lifted.
The 17-year-old defensive midfielder has been making heads turn with the performances he has put in for the Frankfurt youth team and many teams across Europe have taken notice of the talented youngster. The Finnish starlet has already represented his country at the U19 level and has one year remaining on his existing contract with the Bundesliga club.
Hyrylainen has made 17 appearances for the youth side this season, scoring two goals and setting up three during this period. Predominantly a defensive midfielder who can also play in the centre of the park, the 17-year-old shows maturity beyond his age and has what it takes to make it big.
Chelsea are said to be keen on signing the wonderkid as soon as he turns 18 in August. The Blues are still working under special restrictions following the sanctions placed on them by the UK Government and are still unable to make signings. Hyrylainen, however, is a signing they are said to be keen on making as soon as the ban is lifted.
At 17, it is too early to think of a role for Luka Hyrylainen in the Chelsea first team but if the Blues indeed sign him, he could be a smart signing for the future. The Blues have a great academy at Cobham which can provide the perfect pedestal for youngsters to shine.
The Finnish teenager, for his part, can continue his development in one of the best facilities in the world knowing that Thomas Tuchel is not averse to giving chances to deserving youngsters. Trevoh Chalobah’s rise and rise this season serves as the perfect example of that.
Chelsea might be in for a major midfield revamp in the near future with both Jorginho and N’Golo Kante not getting any younger. Whilst Mateo Kovacic is undoubtedly a quality midfielder, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Ross Barkley have failed to impress on a consistent basis as starters.
In Billy Gilmour and Conor Gallagher, Chelsea have two of the most talented midfield prospects in England and if everything goes well, along with Luka Hyrylainen, they could be the future of the Blues midfield.
But of course, before Chelsea fans can start dreaming about their own plans for the teenager’s future at the Bridge, the Blues would first have to see their transfer ban lifted and then formalise any interest they may hold in the young Finnish talent.
