According to The Athletic (Subscription Required), despite attracting interest from Chelsea and Brighton & Hove Albion, Khayon Edwards has committed his future to Arsenal by signing a new contract.
Arsenal under-18 player Khayon Edwards has attracted the attention of top Premier League teams due to his sensational performance this season. He has scored 17 goals and assisted six more in 22 appearances across all competitions for the Gunners u-18 team, which is impressive considering he is still only 18 years of age.
It was believed that Chelsea and Brighton & Hove Albion were tracking the teenager’s growth in search of the right moment to strike a deal with him. However, both theirs and Chelsea’s transfer approach ended in agony as the 18-year-old had no plans to end the relationship with the Gunners.
After the 18-year-old got sidelined due to injury, the Gunners board showed promptness in convincing him to pen down a new deal. If anything, it shows just how highly they value him at The Emirates.
Edwards is believed to have signed a contract extension with Arsenal that will keep him with the club until 2025, with the option to extend his stay for another year.
Khayon Edwards has shown potential to become a top-class striker one day. Despite being pretty young, the 18-year-old has shown maturity and dedication, which is plausible. As his career grows, he would become much more lethal in front of the goal.
Chelsea’s forward line has faced massive criticism in the ongoing campaign due to their inability to produce consistent performances. Timo Werner and Romelu Lukaku’s display remains below average, while Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech have struggled with game time.
Considering the kind of performances Khayon Edwards has shown in recent matches, he could have become a quality addition to the Blues’ squad.
However, Arsenal’s transfer approach shows they are highly hopeful regarding the growth of the 18-year-old and wouldn’t lose out such a player to a direct rival that easily.
