According to Sky Italia and Fabrizio Romano (h/t Football.London), Chelsea have been handed a glimmer of hope in the pursuit of talented French midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni with Real Madrid said to be €10million off the asking price Monaco are demanding for their prized asset.
Tchouameni joined Monaco from Bordeaux in 2020 and has since then gone on to establish himself as one of the most talented defensive midfield prospects in the world. His performances for the Ligue 1 giants have earned him plaudits from around Europe.
The 22-year-old midfielder has played 50 times for Monaco this season scoring five goals and providing three assists across all competitions. Tchouameni’s versatility adds to his importance with the talented Frenchman capable of playing even in more advanced roles.
Real Madrid were said to be keen on signing the French international and have already made their offer for him. However, they are still short of Monaco’s asking price of €80million, according to Fabrizio Romano (h/t football.london) and that offers Chelsea a window of opportunity to try and sign Tchouameni.
If Real Madrid want a player, they try their best to get him into their ranks and with Tchouameni, expect it to be no different. After all, Los Blancos are the team that tabled a €200m bid for Kylian Mbappe of PSG last year.
Even if Los Blancos are a little off from the valuation, the fact that the player actually wants to join them goes a long way in deciding the future of the Frenchman. Tchouameni is bound to succeed and would be a part of Real Madrid’s midfield for many years to come given his age and talent.
Chelsea could benefit from adding the 22-year-old to their roster. Chelsea’s midfield finds itself in a conundrum with both N’Golo Kante and Jorginho ageing and not the players they were once. Mateo Kovacic for all his brilliance tends to be injured often.
Adding Tchouameni to a young crop of talents like Conor Gallagher and Billy Gilmour would have had the Blues sorted for many years to come but it seems unlikely right now. Whilst there are other options that we could explore, the Frenchman may seem like an opportunity lost if Madrid match the valuation.
It remains to be seen as to how Chelsea choose to reinforce their midfield for next season. They could manage for a while even if they don’t and keep their main players on board, but adding quality is always welcome.
