Transfer News: Chelsea eye Gleison Bremer as Antonio Rudiger exit looms
According to Football.london, Chelsea are eyeing Torino star Gleison Bremer as German international Antonio Rudiger‘s days in west London seem numbered.
The Blues defender has been a standout performer for the club under Thomas Tuchel and will depart Stamford Bridge in the summer when his contract expires. A rock at the back, it is imperative that Chelsea bring in a player of similar quality to plug the gap.
At 25, Bremer is at the right age to take the next step in his career. He has already established himself as a top talent in Italy and with the right guidance can take his abilities to the next level.
An aggressive centre-back, the Brazilian has been scouted by Chelsea this season. It is fair to say that the Blues scouts would have been impressed with what they saw. Bremer has been at the heart of a stingy Torino defence that has let in a mere 37 goals in Serie A this season. To put it into context, only the top four have conceded fewer.
A physically dominant player, Bremer is also adept with the ball at his feet. He can kick-start attacks from deep and would also add an attacking impetus on set pieces. All in all, it can be argued that the Blues could eventually end up with a player who has a higher ceiling than Rudiger.
As things stand, Bremer has put up better defensive numbers than Rudiger. But his attacking contributions pale with respect to that of the German. It could, however, just be the case of the latter player in a technically limited team such as Torino. They sit 10th in their league, after all, while the Blues are the UEFA Champions League holders right now.
The Brazilian has everything in his locker to develop into a world-class player. With interest in his services mounting, Chelsea will do well to snap him up as soon as possible. With Rudiger on his way out, it is time that we look beyond him to the future.
Chelsea are also likely to lose Andreas Christensen and Cesar Azpilicueta this summer. The defence has been a constant feature in Tuchel’s success at the club and having to rebuild the roster is no mean feat. Potentially bringing in Bremer is a good start and it remains to be seen if Chelsea will take the beaten path.

Trevoh Chalobah can also assume a more important role in our backline considering Thiago Silva is no spring chicken at 37. Soon enough, Chelsea could have a new-look defence but for that to happen, Chelsea need to first put to rest the ownership certainty that has loomed over the Bridge ever since Roman Abramovich announced that he wanted to sell the club.
