Barcelona could make a move for Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku
According to Marca (h/t Shields Gazette), Barcelona are looking to sign Chelsea ace Romelu Lukaku after their attempts to land Erling Haaland and Robert Lewandowski were thwarted
The Catalan giants are currently trailing Real Madrid by a huge margin in La Liga and also crashed out of the UEFA Europa League after the defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt. Despite these stumbling blocks, the Blaugrana seems to be on the rise ever since Xavi Hernandez has taken over the managerial reins at the club.
The Spanish manager has also been backed heavily by the board by bringing players like Ferran Torres, Adama Traore, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Camp Nou. The Spanish club are also set to sign Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen in the summer and could be looking to prise away another player from Stamford Bridge.
Time over for Lukaku at Chelsea?
The Belgian international had a great start to life with the Blues but has struggled to justify his huge price tag as the season has gone on. The 28-year-old striker has managed a paltry 12 goals and two assists in 40 matches across all competitions for the West Londoners this season.
This is a rather woeful output considering that Chelsea spent a whopping £97.5 million on securing his services from Inter Milan. The former Manchester United hitman has been a shadow of his former self in the 2021-22 season and also the highest wage earner with the Blues at the moment.
As such the interest from Barca could be a welcome sight should the Stamford Bridge outfit look to cut their losses and remove a significant chunk of money from their wage bills. That being said, with a hectic schedule in May, Lukaku still has numerous opportunities to prove his worth to Thomas Tuchel and Co.
The club hierarchy would be running out of patience with the former Everton man but the prospect of any move to Camp Nou hinges on a couple of other details. While it is understood that the Spanish club’s attempts to buy Haaland and Lewandowski haven’t been successful, anything can happen in the world of football, especially if a lucrative offer is tabled.

Romelu Lukaku is way down the wish-list of Barcelona at the moment, but should he continue the same trajectory, the Blues may have to take a tough decision to ship him off and cut their losses, in order to make way for another forward at Stamford Bridge.
