According to the Mirror, Todd Boehly is set to get the approval for his bid to take over Chelsea football club despite a prevailing Government issue.
The US billionaire has agreed to a £4.25billion takeover deal according to claims of which £1.75bn would go to investment in the football club as he looks to buy Chelsea from sanctioned owner Roman Abramovich. The UK Government forced the Russian’s hand in selling the football club after the sanctions imposed on him following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
The Blues have been operating on a special license over the past few months since the sanctions that have seen several restrictions placed on contract renewals, player transfers and much more. With the special license set to expire on May 31, the takeover needs to happen before that at all costs.
There was fear over if the takeover will happen due to a Government issue but Chelsea are said to be fairly confident of getting the deal over the line and apparently assume that the Government is being extra strict just to ensure that the takeover happens in time.
Roman Abramovich’s glorious 19-year-reign at the helm of Chelsea has come to an end. During this time, the Blues have won every competition that there is to be won at least one time and have been one of the best clubs in English football.
A new era is set to embark on the Blues when the Todd Boehly takeover happens eventually and the Stamford Bridge faithful will be hoping that this new era is as successful if not better than the previous one. If the ideologies of the new owners are similar to the ones of the Russian, then exciting times lie ahead for the Blues.
The new owners coming in have a lot of problems to solve as soon as they assume office. Chelsea have a massive defensive exodus to solve with Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger very close to leaving the club. The futures of Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso are yet to be decided as well, which gives the Blues a huge headache.
This means that the club will have to invest to revamp their backline by shopping for centre-backs in the transfer market but that will not be an easy task. The club will have to be on top of their game to get good replacements for the outgoing players- if that is the approach they take rather than promoting from within.
But then again, it is unfair to ask so much from Cobham. Trevoh Chalobah and Reece James have just recently become big parts of our team’s starting XI and we can’t expect players like them to keep coming out of the development teams every season.
A huge summer awaits Chelsea. How they handle the upcoming transfer window could go a long way in shaping the new era at Stamford Bridge. It remains to be seen how the new owners handle the situation.
