“I never feel safe”- Tuchel admits worry for Chelsea in top-four race after defeat to Lampard

Thomas Tuchel ‘worried’ that a top-four finish might slip from the hand of Chelsea after Everton loss

Speaking after the game yesterday, as quoted by the Daily Mail, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel revealed that he is ‘worried’ about the Blues’ chances to finish top four.

Chelsea suffered a horrible 1-0 defeat away against Everton, thanks to Richarlison’s 46th-minute goal. The loss has put Thomas Tuchel’s team in an uncomfortable position on the Premier League table as they are now only 3 points clear from the 4th spot.

Tuchel seemed very frustrated after the loss as he walked straight across the pitch and back to the dressing room. When asked about his reaction to the loss, he criticised his team’s performances and suggested that they won’t be able to achieve much with this type of display.

Thomas Tuchel was ‘disappointed’ by Chelsea’s performance against Everton.

Chelsea have acquired only 4 points from the last four games. They further conceded seven goals in the process. Our issues were compounded by the fact that we failed to score and did not keep a clean sheet against a side that is in the relegation zone.

When asked whether Chelsea are now in the position to battle for the top four spots, the German manager showed his concern and suggested that four points in four games wouldn’t be enough to win any race.

“I’m very disappointed. We knew what was coming (from Everton), and like in the last matches, we struggled to have clean sheets. Of course, I’m worried about the top four. I never feel safe. Four points in four games will never be enough, no matter what race we are in.”

Are Chelsea at risk of losing the top-four spot?

Captain Cesar Azplicueta made a mistake leading to Everton’s goal. In the initial half of the season, fans would have thought that the Blues’ forward line might be a little rusty, but now defensive vulnerabilities are also emerging.

Thomas Tuchel is fearful that Chelsea might not finish top four in the Premier League.

Star striker Romelu Lukaku was left on the bench and was an unused substitute despite Chelsea knowing for the last 45 minutes of the game that they were chasing the game. The Belgian was signed to put the ball in the opponent’s net in challenging games, and yesterday’s match was a perfect setting for him.

The former PSG manager has to use all the cards in his hand when challenging situations emerge. He has been using a few crucial players repeatedly, which could attract a risk to their fitness. Perhaps, his team selection against Frank Lampard’s men shone a light on his planning for the month ahead.

The Blues have 4 more league games to go while facing Liverpool once again in a cup final this season. The Blues play on the 7th and 11th before the FA Cup final on 14th May at Wembley.
