Thomas Tuchel opens up on Chelsea star’s suspected injury scare against Wolves

Transfer News: Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso is considering handing in a transfer request to force a move to Barcelona.

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel denies Marcos Alonso injury concern

According to football.london, In response to post-match interview questions, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel stated that Marcos Alonso was not injured and that his substitution was part of the game plan. Romelu Lukaku’s brace was not enough to secure the Blues three points, as Conor Coady’s stoppage-time equaliser silenced Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea started well in the first half, enjoying most of the possession and even scoring two goals that were ruled out by VAR. Similar to the first half, Chelsea started well in the second half and quickly seized the lead due to two quickfire goals from Lukaku.

The Belgian’s first goal was a penalty and the second was a superb finish from 27 yards out after Wolves ceded possession in a dangerous area. Todd Boehly was watching from the stands and might have been delighted to see his team winning, however, it lasted only till the 79th minute as Wolves worked their way back into the game.

The goal gave Wolves impetus to seek an equaliser. They had Chelsea on the ropes and it eventually paid off in stoppage time. Much to the agony of the Chelsea supporters, they are now just a point ahead of fourth-placed Arsenal.

Tuchel responded regarding the team’s performance and Alonso’s injury cry

When asked about the team’s performance against Stamford Bridge, Tuchel appeared enraged and unhappy. He even ignored Lukaku’s excellent performance, choosing to focus on the team’s failure rather than individuals; he regarded the draw as a defeat.

“It’s not about dropping too low. It’s about the structure, where you lose the ball, and individual positions, then the opponent takes a crazy approach because they have nothing to lose. We could not score the third one, huge chances to score the third. We don’t even create big chances because the pass is missing, the dribbling is wrong, and the decision is wrong. At some point, we played like we were 2-0 down, so I don’t think we were too deep, the opposite.”

Marcos Alonso got subbed early in the game.

Marcos Alonso was subbed in the 46th minute for Saul Iniguez. Thankfully the defender was not injured and the substitution was more tactical than forced. Given that Ben Chilwell is already out injured, Tychel’s reveal is welcome news.

“Marcos was not injured, it was just a decision we made.”

More Chelsea news

If Alonso had been injured, Chelsea would have had a terrible time moving forward in the season. Tuchel’s choices for left-backs would have been limited. We need Alonso for our FA Cup match against Liverpool later this month, so it’s fantastic news that he’s not injured.

After yesterday’s 2-2 draw with Wolves, the players must now focus on getting three points before the FA Cup tie. Then we’ll be more confident going into the finals.
