Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel provided an injury update regarding Kai Havertz and Timo Werner
According to football.london, Thomas Tuchel provided an injury update on Timo Werner and Kai Havertz during the post-match press conference. Both the players did not participate in the FA Cup final against Liverpool on Saturday, however, while Werner was on the bench, Havertz was not in the squad.
The Merseysiders won the FA Cup and beat Chelsea in a penalty shootout for the second time this season, adding the trophy to the Carabao Cup they had already won. This win keeps their quadruple ambitions alive, which is bad news for the Blues, who were determined to spoil the Red’s dreams and finish the season with a trophy.
Both defences appeared to be formidable, and neither team conceded a goal in the 120 minutes of regulation time. Chelsea would be pleased that they were able to draw with Liverpool, who were widely seen as favourites. But they couldn’t convert it into a win in the shoot-out.
Blues captain Cesar Azpilicueta and their academy product Mason Mount both missed as Kostas Tsimikas then netted the winning kick. But during the game, Werner seemed to warm up on the sidelines.
Injury Update of Chelsea duo
Tuchel, during his post-match press conference, said that both Kai and Timo were having Hamstring issues before the match. Havertz was ruled out of the match, however, Werner was on the bench for the FA Cup final.
“Kai did not train yesterday because of hamstring problems. So he didn’t train yesterday as he thought if he trained he would injure himself. So we tried everything, left him out, tried everything medically. We did the last test today in the morning and he was not better, it was not possible. Timo felt uncomfortable in the warm-up and said he can’t play. That was hamstring as well.”
Chelsea missed both these players as the manager would have used them to make an impact in the goalless draw. This season, the ex-RB Leipzig star has struggled for playing time along with Romelu Lukaku.
Had they been available yesterday, Werner and Havertz could have made a difference against the Reds. The German playmaker, who joined us from Bayer Leverkusen, is an able dribbler and creator while Werner’s pace and directness can cause problems for teams.
Games like the one yesterday are where they can show off their potential, gain the manager’s faith, and get the fans cheering for them. Even though the German forward was on the bench, his injury concern made Tuchel reluctant to use him.

The manager was forced to bring on a midfielder, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, instead. The Blues need another win to seal their top-four spot and while it would be considered easy against teams such as a struggling Leicester City and Watford, anything can happen in the PL.
Hopefully, the German duo can feature in some capacity because we can use all the help we can get to not miss out on next season’s UCL.
