Thomas Tuchel caught off guard as Romelu Lukaku’s agent plans future talks with new Chelsea owners
Thomas Tuchel has been left dumbfounded after he was told that Romelu Lukaku‘s agent plans to hold talks with new Chelsea owners over his client’s future. It appears that Federico Pastorello, Lukaku’s representative, is looking to meet with the prospective chiefs directly, bypassing the man in charge in the process.
Lukaku’s time at Stamford Bridge has not turned out the way anyone would have expected since leaving Inter Milan to join them last summer. Doubts have been raised over the striker’s future beyond this season, with Pastorello recently revealing that he intends to meet the new chiefs in summer.
Tuchel was asked about the matter, and it seemed like he did not have any clue about the agent’s revelation. Speaking in the pre-match press conference ahead of the FA Cup final (h/t The Express), the German boss reacted laughingly and suggested that perhaps Pastorello does not want to include him, questioning the agent’s intentions in the process.
“If he plans to talk with the owner then maybe it’s not his plan to talk with me. Let’s see if he gets a meeting, maybe he can talk. It’s his right and we will talk to anybody and evaluate the situation of any player including Romelu.”
Issues between Tuchel and Pastorello?
The supporters will hope that there would not be any unrest between the Belgian striker’s camp and Tuchel. One would wonder why the 48-year-old boss is not included in the meeting that is due to take place after this term. That is especially the case when the centre-forward’s future is the subject that is going to be discussed.
After all, Tuchel will have a say in Lukaku’s future at the Bridge and potentially excluding him does raise some doubts over Pastorello’s intentions. Then again, it would be best if all the parties would have an open conversation and clear any doubts regarding the attacker’s prospects moving forward.
Lukaku did seem to be on the way to reaching his best self, looking at his performances from the last two matches. The 29-year-old has started the previous two Premier League games against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Leeds United, scoring three goals in the process.
The former Manchester United man has an opportunity to build on those displays and perhaps overcome his struggles by helping the West Londoners to win the FA Cup trophy. Lukaku did go through a rough phase for a large part of this season, but he could look past that with an impressive showing tomorrow.

Kai Havertz did something similar last campaign as he scored a decisive goal in the Champions League final against Manchester City. He struggled for much of the previous term, but his performance in the final gave him a clean slate after winning the title.
Lukaku could repeat the same this time around, but whether that will happen or not remains to be seen. As for the summer talks that are set to take place, we hope that there are no ulterior motives if Tuchel is excluded from the discussions regarding the forward’s future.
