A View From The Bridge

“My heart is here” – Blow for Chelsea as former ace prefers to stay on at current club

Tammy Abraham commits his future to AS Roma future amidst Chelsea and Arsenal interest

Speaking to DAZN (via Goal) (h/t Football.London), English striker Tammy Abraham has committed his future to Italian giants AS Roma amidst interest from Premier League heavyweights Chelsea and Arsenal.

The former Blues striker joined Roma at the start of the season after being told he was surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge. Linking up with Jose Mourinho in Rome, Abraham has gone on to explode in Serie A making the whole of Europe sit up and take notice of his traits.

The 24-year-old has played 51 times for Roma this season scoring a whopping 26 goals and providing five assists across all competitions. Such numbers on such a consistent basis show the quality the English target man possesses and he is finally realising his true potential.

Chelsea and Arsenal are said to be interested in bringing the Englishman back home but Abraham insists he is extremely happy at Roma. It comes as no surprise given that he is thriving in the Italian capital.

“I love this club. They’ve given me the opportunity to show myself, my heart is here. We’ll see what the future holds, but my heart is here.”

A mistake?

Chelsea are supposedly interested in re-signing Abraham back just a season after letting him go. Allowing the talented striker to leave in the first place was a mistake that we are now coming to regret.

The Blues allowed the youngster to leave and went on to sign Romelu Lukaku for an exorbitant fee. It is safe to say that neither decision has worked out from a Chelsea perspective. Whilst the 24-year-old has gone from strength to strength, Lukaku has struggled on his return to Stamford Bridge.

Just a year later, here we are again, trying to amend our mistake by bringing the Cobham graduate back home. However, Abraham seems to be keen on staying on at Roma. Chelsea appears to have a buy-back clause for the talented striker but that does not become active this summer.

Chelsea’s striking woes this season have been well documented with both Timo Werner and Romelu Lukaku struggling to put in consistent performances. This has led to the Blues depending on other areas of the pitch for goals. This has often seen them struggle to acquire the requisite results.

Whilst Abraham might not want to move right now, we have a buy-back clause for him in 2023 and if the Englishman continues in the same vein, Chelsea must accept they made a mistake and sign him back without an iota of doubt. As of now, the 22-year-old wants to continue in Rome but it remains to be seen what happens in the future.
