According to football.london, Chelsea transfer target Paulo Dybala has announced his exit from Juventus at the end of the season. He is also courting interest from our Premier League rivals, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.
The 28-year-old, whose Juventus contract expires at the end of the season, is expected to be one of the most sought-after free agents this summer. Even though injuries prevented him from reaching his full potential, his technique and creativity still place him among the best in the world. Anyone who has seen him play will agree that the Argentine is a true genius when on form.
Following his decision to decline Juventus’s offer to extend his contract in Turin, he has been linked with a move to London in recent months. He announced his departure from the Italian giants in an emotional Twitter statement yesterday.
He wrote in his tweet about his time at Juventus and thanked the team for supporting him at difficult times. His future however lies elsewhere and could even lead to Stamford Bridge should we be able to pull it off.
“It is difficult to find the right words to greet you, there are many years and many emotions involved, all together… I thought we would be together even more years, but fate puts us on different paths.”
Juventus play Lazio in their last home game of the Serie A season on Monday. Whether Dybala will use his Turin swansong to audition for offers remains to be seen. If anything, his quality as a footballer is already public knowledge.
“Tomorrow will be my last match with this shirt, it’s hard to imagine, but it will be our last goodbye. It will not be easy, but I will enter the field with a smile and my head held high, knowing that I have given everything for you.”
The Argentine’s announcement is a green light to the Blues, who would be aiming to bolster their squad for the 2022/23 season. We absolutely wish to have a creative and intelligent player like him in the squad, especially against teams that dig deep defensively. Chelsea would need to act quickly to secure his signing since our rivals are also interested in the playmaker and the transfer window is less than a month away.
Incoming owner Todd Boehly and the recruitment team would be delighted to hear about his announcement and will be looking forward to making negotiations with his agent. As the sanctions are still imposed on the club, we might not be able to make an official bid yet. Once the takeover is successfully completed, the club will be ready to make their move.
The Argentina international has emerged as the ideal profile to compliment Kai Havertz’s developing role at the club. Having achieved the proper mix between playmaking and goalscoring during his seven-year tenure in Turin, the 28-year-old would add more depth, creativity and flair to the Chelsea squad.
Although Dybala can play both as an attacking mid and a second striker if needed. The likes of Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner have massively underachieved at Stamford Bridge. Whether Dybala is the man to unlock their potential remains to be seen.
