Liverpool superstar decision could impact Chelsea transfer plans

Sadio Mane’s exit could affect Chelsea pursuit of Ousmane Dembele

According to The Athletic (Subscription Required), Sadio Mane has decided to leave Liverpool this summer with a supposed move to Bayern Munich on the cards. This could lead to a transfer blow for Chelsea with SPORT (h/t Football.London) claiming that the Reds could turn their interest to Ousmane Dembele

Mane’s transfer bombshell came in the aftermath of Liverpool losing the Champions League final to Real Madrid with the Senegalese supposedly looking forward to a new challenge. Chelsea’s interest in Ousmane Dembele has been no secret for quite some time now and a club like Liverpool coming in could throw a spanner in the works.

The former Borussia Dortmund man has had an exceptional season with Barcelona this time around playing 32 games for Xavi Hernandez’s side scoring two goals and providing 13 assists across all competitions. After years of injury troubles, Dembele seems to be finally blossoming into a world class player.

Ousmane Dembele could leave Barcelona.

The 25-year-old’s contract with the Spanish giants is set to expire in the summer and he is yet to pen down a new deal with Barcelona. Chelsea are said to be keen on signing the player but they have unwelcome competition now in the form of Liverpool.

At all costs?

The Frenchman is indeed a unique player who has the potential to be a world beater and Chelsea need to snap him up at all costs. Thomas Tuchel will be aware of Dembele’s ability having managed him while at Borussia Dortmund.

Anyone who has seen Dembele play knows that on his day, the Frenchman could be absolutely unplayable. The 25-year-old is a good dribbler with a great eye for a pass. He can offer the Blues something very different to the options we currently have.

The Blues would hope that the presence of Thomas Tuchel could sway Dembele towards Stamford Bridge with the German tactician having managed to get the best out of the Frenchman during their season together at Borussia Dortmund.

The only sticking point in pursuing Dembele could be his less than impressive injury record but the Frenchman seems to have gotten past his injury troubles and has seemingly managed to stay fit for almost the entirety of the second half of the current campaign.

It remains to be seen who manages to sign Dembele in the summer. He could still decide to stay at Barcelona but if he were to leave, then Chelsea must undoubtedly pursue him.
