Speaking in an interview as quoted by Marca (h/t Football.London), La Liga President has offered Chelsea a boost in the pursuit of Robert Lewandowski by claiming that Barcelona does not have the financial muscle to pull off a deal for the Polish striker.
The former Dortmund man joined Bayern Munich in 2014 and has since then gone on to become one of the best players in the world at the Allianz Arena. In the last three seasons, the Polish striker has gone on from strength to strength to arguably become the best goal scorer in the world.
This season, the 33-year-old has scored 50 goals and provided seven assists in just 46 matches across all competitions and had yet again cemented his status as a serial goalscorer. There are few players with a better goal ratio than the Polish hitman.
Despite his tremendous success at Bayern, the Polish forward supposedly wants a new challenge and is keen on making a move to Spanish giants Barcelona. However, the La Liga president’s words offer some hope to Chelsea who are said to be keen on the player.
“The numbers are very easy, yes. You have more than 500 million losses from the previous two years, you have to recover them to be able to sign without the 1/3 rule”
The Blues certainly do with a serial goalscorer to lead the line next season. While Lewandowski is unlikely to be a long term solution, he can make the difference for us in the immediate future.
“Lewandowski has one year left at Bayern, between what Lewandowski wants to earn and what Bayern wants to take… it gives me the feeling. As of today, I do not see him at Barcelona.”
Lewandowski is nothing short of a sensational goalscorer. He will undoubtedly score goals and will be a great addition to any team that he goes to. At 33, he is extremely fit too and is ageing like fine wine.
Our striking woes in front of the goal this season are well documented. Both Timo Werner and Romelu Lukaku have not had their best seasons in front of goal and this has forced us to depend on other areas of the pitch for goal output this campaign.
Signing Lewandowski will undoubtedly solve these issues for the Blues. He will definitely score a truckload of goals for us if he comes here but his signing will be far from straightforward. As much as Tebas claims Barcelona cannot sign the player, we must take this news with a pinch of salt.
The player’s desire to join a club goes a long way in helping a transfer happen and the fact that Lewandowski is supposedly keen on moving to Barcelona. This might mean that the player could be willing to do whatever it takes to make the transfer happen.
Lewandowski to Chelsea sounds interesting on paper. It may not materialise though in real life but it certainly is an interesting story to keep an eye out on.
