According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Robert Lewandowski still gives his priority to moving to Barcelona amidst interest from Chelsea for a potential transfer. His future at Bayern Munich is in uncertain waters at this moment, which has resulted in him getting linked with an exit ahead of the next season.
The Blues have held a long-standing interest in Lewandowski as they have been tracking him since last summer. They are not alone, though, as Paris Saint-Germain are also in a similar boat regarding their pursuit of the striker. Both interested parties have been dealt a blow as the attacker still prefers to move to Camp Nou in the future.
The Polish international’s agent Pini Zahavi agrees with the centre-forward and considers a transfer to Barca as their priority right now. The Catalans have already offered a three-year contract, but Lewandowski and his camp remain open to discussions with other clubs as well.
Signing a prolific striker could be deemed a necessity for the west London side, considering how the attack has lacked decisiveness throughout this season. Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner have been disappointing overall, although both of them have shown some signs of life in recent weeks.
Despite that, we need a dependable option in the frontline if there are hopes to challenge Liverpool or Manchester City moving forward. That being said, if we are to bring in Lewandowski for that purpose, there must be some departures to compensate for his expense.
After all, the defence should be our major concern at this moment, which means that any reinforcements in other positions should be made only after parting ways with fringe or out of form stars. Then again, if we are to stand a chance to sign the 33-year-old, his current stance must change moving forward.
The Blaugrana side’s current position does cause major issues for us, although we still have a chance to make a case for ourselves with the Bundesliga talisman. Werner failed to convince Tuchel to an extent that he went out to get Lukaku- who has in turn ended up being an underwhelming performer in his system.
Lewandowski is a smart short-term signing for most teams in the world, with his finishing and goal-scoring abilities there for all to see. Cristiano Ronaldo’s spell at Manchester United only goes to show that age is just a number.
PSG cannot be taken lightly either, as they boast the financial might to attract world-class players as they did in the previous summers. All in all, we are in line to enter some interesting couple of weeks up ahead, so let’s wait and see if we can convince Lewandowski to move to Stamford Bridge in the future.
With a player wanting a move elsewhere, it will not be an easy road for the Blues if they really want the Polish star. But then again, it is rarely easy to land top players and the Blues board would be wise to go the extra mile for a star striker like Lewa.
