Christian Pulisic has been urged to leave Chelsea and seek his fortunes elsewhere
Speaking to ESPN as quoted by Football.London, former Blues defender Frank Leboeuf has urged Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic to make a transfer elsewhere to realise his true potential as he does not see the American getting regular game time at Stamford Bridge.
The former Borussia Dortmund man joined Chelsea in 2019 and his career with the Blues has been mixed to say the least. Capable of showing flashes of brilliance, injuries have not allowed the talented winger to settle into a rhythm of any sort and he has often seen himself being shunted down the pecking order.
Pulisic has played 38 times for the Blues this season although only 35% of them have come as a starter. During this period, he has managed to score eight goals and provide five assists across all competitions. While it is far from a poor return, it is underwhelming coming from a player of the American’s quality.
Speaking about the player’s chances of succeeding at Stamford Bridge, Leboeuf believes that if Pulisic makes a move away from the Blues, he has a better chance of realising his true potential.
“I think [there is] a question mark that he is more influential in the national team than Chelsea. With the future at Chelsea, I don’t see him playing a lot. That’s more of advice than my willing to see him leaving. If he still wants to be the ‘Captain America’ next season, he will have to find another team.”
Stick around?
Pulisic is still very young and has a lot of time left in his career. Starting week in week out at a club like Chelsea at just 23 is not something that happens often and the American must stick around if he is serious about making it at the Bridge.
If he can stay fit, there is no doubting the sheer potential the American possesses can be a key weapon in the Blues’ arsenal. Anyone who has followed Pulisic’s career knows that on his day, he could be virtually unplayable and we do not want to lose out on such a talented player.
If the talented winger was indeed to leave, Chelsea are not short of options to replace him. Our attack is filled with a plethora of players who are capable of stepping up and raising their game. However, if Pulisic were to move elsewhere and become the player we know he can, the Blues might rue the decision to part ways prematurely.
Working under Thomas Tuchel, a manager who got the best out of him in Dortmund should be enough incentive for the American to stick around. The German coach will definitely have a clear plan to get the best out of Pulisic and it may not be long before we see it.
