Chelsea and Thomas Tuchel will be given a transfer budget of £200million by Todd Boehly in the summer window
According to the Express, Chelsea are set to be given a transfer budget of £200million to spend in the transfer market by new owner Todd Boehly once the takeover is officially completed.
Long time Blues owner Roman Abramovich was sanctioned by the UK Government and the club was forced to operate on a special license since then. The Russian has preceded over one of the most famous reigns ever seen in English football.
Chelsea are in the midst of a takeover being completed right now with the consortium led by Todd Boehly set to become the new owners of Stamford Bridge. The Premier League have approved the takeover and it is a matter of time before it goes across the line.
Now, it is being reported that the new owners will give Thomas Tuchel £200million to spend in the transfer market as they look to bring in new players and reinforce the squad to compete for trophies again next season.
Need of the hour?
To say that Chelsea need reinforcements in the transfer market is a huge understatement. The Blues have a huge job to do in the next two months. The defence has been Tuchel’s strongest suit during his time in London and we must ensure that the solid foundation that the German built at the back is reconstructed ahead of the next season.
Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger are confirmed to leave the club on free transfers and Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso are also contemplating their futures at Stamford Bridge. This will leave the Blues severely short of defenders next season.
Shopping for centre-backs is the need of the hour. A young and dynamic central midfielder wouldn’t hurt as well. Apart from that, Reece James can also use a backup on the right hand side, especially in the event of Azpi departing the club in the future.
One issue with the amount that is said to be given to Blues is that the new owners might want to make a statement signing to begin their reign at Stamford Bridge and that might take away most of the budget in order to facilitate such a signing.

Regardless, £200million is a huge budget to work with. It remains to be seen if the Blues put the money to use and make the required reinforcements for the squad. Another strategy to increase the amount is by way of selling players and freeing up the wage bill but that is something that will only become clear with time.
