Thomas Tuchel reacts to the comments made by Chelsea ace’s father

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel reacts to the comments made by the father of Christian Pulisic

While speaking in a pre-match conference as quoted by Football.London, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel revealed that his relationship with Christian Pulisic remains positive, but the same can’t be said about his association with the player’s father.

After making his comeback from recurring injuries, Christian Pulisic hasn’t featured much in the starting XI. He has made 34 appearances across all competitions, with only ten starting XI appearances in the Premier League this season.

Pulisic’s lack of game time at Chelsea concerned his father, who referred to the ‘sad’ reality at the West London club in a now-deleted tweet. It is fair to say that it did not go down well with Tuchel.

When the event was raised in front of Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel in his pre-match conference, the German suggested that his relationship with Pulisic’s father might not be going in a positive direction. But the former PSG manager also added that the scenario doesn’t bother him at all.

“I’m not concerned if a father does not say a player does love me or not! I am not concerned about that, for sure not. (Is everything alright there?) with the father and me? Maybe not! I don’t know!”

Thomas Tuchel suggested that every manager at such levels has to take such hard decisions. But he believes not starting the 23-year-old regularly this season hasn’t affected his relationship with the American star.

“It’s a normal thing. Every manager, we have our reasons to choose a line-up and have our reasons to go for players in the first eleven. You will never see in this kind of level of competition happy faces from players that are not selected. Between Christian and me exists zero problems. He had a fantastic training week so far; he is in some matches a huge impact from the bench.”

Christian Pulisic’s dad pointed out the ‘sad’ situation at Chelsea.

Does Pulisic need more attention?

Christian Pulisic gave a sensational output in his first season at Chelsea. But his influence on the team started to wane from the following season due to several fitness issues. Even though he has returned to match fitness, Pulisic hasn’t been able to live up to the expectations.

On top of that, new recruits like Timo Werner, Romelu Lukaku and Kai Havertz have been mostly trusted with the big job after Thomas Tuchel took over the charge of the team.

Pulisic has started significantly more matches in the second half of the season including four Champions League games. He has however struggled to repay the faith put in him by Tuchel and has lacked the x-factor while on the field.

In this case, we can’t entirely crucify the manager as he has given a significant amount of time to the 23-year-old. If he had performed impressively, he could have secured the cemented spot.

Pulisic would probably get more chances in the coming games considering Timo Werner and Romelu Lukaku are struggling with their form and might not be used for the entire matches. But it would be upon the American star how he performs.
