“Going to change”- Chelsea star gives his verdict on the incoming Boehly era

Chelsea star Reece James opens up on what to expect from Todd Boehly at Stamford Bridge

According to The Daily Mail, Chelsea star Reece James has opened up on how life at Stamford Bridge will be under the stewardship of Todd Boehly.

The American is close to taking over as the club’s owner from Roman Abramovich and a new era is set to dawn at the London club. Given the success Abramovich and co have had during their time in charge, it is valid to question what can be expected under Boehly.

The Russian oligarch built a winning mentality in the Blues culture and it is essential that the same is kept intact regardless of who is at the helm. James has already had a chat with Boehly and admits that the American is passionate about Chelsea’s success and aims to keep the wins rolling.

“I know he’s passionate about the club, his aim is to win.”

Reece James is optimistic about Chelsea’s future under Todd Boehly.

He goes on to add that the change in ownership will not see the club’s culture change as much. Chelsea will not drop off a level or two and will continue to challenge at the summit of English and European football.

“We’re not just going to change to a club that’s participating… everyone that plays at this club is ambitious.”

It has been a rather underwhelming season for the Blues. Despite starting off well and staying in contention across several fronts, Chelsea only have the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup to show for their efforts. While it is not a bad haul, we could certainly have done better. James aims to correct that in the coming season.

“No matter the owner, we’re the ones that go out and perform on the pitch and next season we will have more competitions to play and hopefully get a few more trophies under our belt.”

The fact that Chelsea made it to both the Carabao Cup final and the FA Cup final despite the off-field concerns shows that the players and staff are committed to doing their bit on the pitch. Their task will certainly be made easier once normalcy returns to the club behind the scenes.

James’ assessment should come as a relief to fans who are unsure of what the new era will curtail. As long as our players stay ambitious, there would appear to be little to worry about.
