“Next year”- Chelsea star makes astounding Ballon d’Or claim in conversation with a fan

Chelsea star Kai Havertz makes an astounding Ballon d’Or claim in a conversation with a fan

While in a conversation with an Indian fan, as tweeted by Premier League India (h/t Football.London), Chelsea star Kai Havertz has revealed his feelings towards a potential Ballon d’Or haul in the future.

The German has developed into one of the most crucial players for Chelsea in recent times. After helping the team win the 2020/21 UEFA Champions League by scoring the winner in the final, Havertz also scored the winning goal in the 2022 Club World Cup final.

Apart from clutch performances, Havertz has also helped his team secure a respectable spot in the Premier League by scoring seven goals and four assists in 25 appearances.    While the numbers do not appear so prolific, he has come up trumps in clutch moments.

He has become a fan favourite among Chelsea supporters following his impressive spells. One such fan named Merav from India backed the German star to win the Ballon d’Or title one day.

In response to the appreciation, Havertz didn’t rule out such a possibility in the future but suggested that he has a long distance to cover before claiming the coveted Ballon d’Or title. At 22, the German has plenty of time to fulfil his potential.

“I think I have a long road ahead, but let’s see what the next year is going to bring to me.”

Can Havertz win the Ballon d’Or?

Havertz has become a problem solver for Thomas Tuchel. He had played in the central striking role several times when there was a shortage of forwarding players due to fitness issues. Apart from stepping up in big games, the German star has helped his compatriots under challenging situations like the aforementioned one.

However, winning the Ballon d’Or is in a different league. He has to beat all the top performers in the world to secure the coveted title, which is certainly not easy. As journalists choose the winner, he has to have a massive influence for the entire season in order to get people to vote for him.

In the Messi-Ronaldo duopoly, only one midfielder has won the title, Croatia’s Luca Modric. The Real Madrid man secured his third consecutive Champions League that season and guided his nation to the final of the World Cup.

Such astounding feats would be pretty challenging to achieve. But it’s not impossible. Chelsea star Jorginho came close to winning the title last year. Havertz can do the same as well. Considering he is still young, he has a lot of time on his hand.
