Chelsea star Kai Havertz responds to Thomas Tuchel’s advice of looking up to Cristiano Ronaldo
While speaking in an interview with Suddeutsche Zeitung, as quoted by Manchester Evening News, Chelsea star Kai Havertz has revealed why it would take him a long time to match the statue of Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Portuguese legend is one of the finest players to ever play the game, let alone his generation. He has exceeded expectations of Premier League fans since his return to Manchester United after giving several crucial performances in big games, despite being 37 years old. His latest heroics against Chelsea rescued a point for his team.
After the game, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel suggested off-form star Kai Havertz to take inspiration from the Portuguese star. The German manager asked his countrymen to follow the “quality, attitude and career” of the 37-year-old Man United legend.
Havertz suggested that it would take a significant amount of time to meet the stature of Ronaldo. He even added that he was not as skilled as the Portuguese star in the early stages of his career. Thankfully there is enough time in his kitty to rectify it.
“People expect you to be the new Cristiano Ronaldo. But it won’t be that fast, everything is new, and I really didn’t play my best football at the beginning.”
Can Havertz match Ronaldo?
Apart from showing good performance consistently, Havertz has become famous for spring crucial goals in important games. The German star bagged important goals in Champions League and Club World Cup finals, which have made him a ‘clutch’ player.
This characteristic of Havertz meets with Cristiano Ronaldo as the Portuguese striker is considered one of the top ‘clutch’ players in football history.
After losing to Everton, Chelsea’s points gap with fourth-placed Arsenal has decreased in the Premier League table. The Blues would be eyeing to secure good results from the remainder of the games to stay in the top four positions. Havertz’s role would be crucial in such a case.
