Chelsea are set to complete the signing of Sevilla star Jules Kounde in the coming days
According to AS (h/t Express), Chelsea are set to finalise the transfer of Jules Kounde soon as the Todd Boehly consortium is expected to take charge of the club before the month’s end.
Jules Kounde has given sensational output consistently for Sevilla in the last few campaigns. The Frenchman has played a total of 44 matches across all competitions this season. Despite being only 23, he is already a first-team regular for the Spanish giants.
Chelsea have been interested in Kounde for a long time. As the Blues are set to lose crucial defenders like Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen, they have sped up the process of securing a centre-back and it seems Kounde might be the person in through the door.
It is believed that Chelsea are in the final stages of negotiations for the Frenchman and are expected to conclude the move in the coming days in a transfer deal worth £51million. The move could happen as soon as the Boehly consortium takes charge of Stamford Bridge.
The 23-year-old had several offers from big clubs, but his focus remains on a move to Stamford Bridge. He will not just compensate for Chelsea’s losses in the window but also give them a reliable centre-back for the upcoming decade.
How can Kounde help Chelsea?
Chelsea’s current scenario regarding players’ contracts isn’t optimistic as several defensive players are eyeing an away move. Amid such a scenario the club must secure reinforcements as soon as possible to avoid a lower squad depth in the next season.
Kounde could take up the regular central defensive role along with Thiago Silva in the Chelsea backline. He is physically strong and technically skilful which makes him an incredible asset for any team. Even though he hasn’t played in the Premier League, Thomas Tuchel might help him adapt to the new tactics.
