Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has not yet ruled out a late takeover offer from Jim Ratcliffe

According to Chelsea FC content creator Simon Phillips (h/t Football.London), Despite Todd Boehly consortium’s already in exclusive talks, Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich hasn’t entirely rejected the late offer from Jim Ratcliffe

After a long process, it was believed that Chelsea and Raine (the firm in charge of selecting a preferred bidder) have finally got their winner, the Todd Boehly group. However, the story is set to take another turn if we consider the recent developments.

It was previously reported that Britain’s richest man Jim Ratcliffe made a lucrative £4bn takeover offer to secure Chelsea FC’s ownership on Friday morning. However, the offer was considered to be made ‘too late’, and it was believed that the Todd Boehly consortium would get to be the preferred bidder.

However, a source close to Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has revealed that the Russian billionaire hasn’t entirely rejected the offer of Jim Ratcliffe. Simon Phillips believes that the Nice owner still has a ‘decent chance’ to secure the deal.

Will Raine and Chelsea break the trust of the other bidders to pair with Jim Ratcliffe?

Several bidders have been in contention to take over the Chelsea ownership in the last two months. The gruelling process was meant to determine the bidders who are best suited for the role, and Raine was tasked to do a detailed check on the background and intentions of the bidders.

Now, if an outside bidder gets the deal despite coming late with an offer, it would hurt the effectiveness of the bidding process. It remains to be seen if the integrity of the process will also be questioned.

The players, fans and coaching staff, who were expecting the process to finally end would also suffer another mental setback by finding out about the late bid.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s bid has already sparked doubts in the other bidders’ minds. Now, if Roman Abramovich allows such a move, it would be disrespectful to all the bidders who have participated in the process.
