While speaking in an interview with CaughtOffside (h/t Football.London), transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed that Mason Mount is determined to continue his career at Chelsea.
After helping his boyhood club win the coveted Champions League last season, Mount has become a fan favourite among the Blues faithful. The 23-year-old remains the joint second top scorer for the West London club this season, having scored 12 goals and 15 assists in 50 appearances.
Even though Mount’s relationship with Chelsea remains spotless, speculations have emerged about his long term stay at the club due to their ongoing ownership saga. Everything remains doubtful at the West London club, from handing new contracts to current players or signing reinforcements.
However, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has suggested Chelsea fans not worry too much about Mason Mount’s renewal deal as his priority always has been to continue playing for the Blues. This comes as a welcome relief for a side that has plenty to think about otherwise.
“I don’t think Blues fans have too much to worry about, despite the uncertainty surrounding the club ownership. Mason Mount’s priority has always been to stay at Chelsea. There are no doubts about his commitment.”
Mount has developed into one of the most exciting young talents in the Premier League. While the Blues’ forward line struggled to produce goals and assists, the academy graduate stepped up and helped the manager with key contributions when required. Without his efforts, our team wouldn’t have been where it is today in the league table.
Being a Chelsea academy graduate, we paid absolutely nothing in the transfer fee for Mount. However, if a situation emerges where we have to replace him with a new arrival, our board might have to spend a fortune to land a player with the same skillset as the 23-year-old.
On top of that, Mason Mount’s loyalty and commitment towards our club probably wouldn’t be possible to replace even if our board agrees to spend a considerable sum. That’s why it is a massive boost to the ambitions of the club and the manager that the 23-year-old has absolute clarity about where he wants to play in the coming years.
Already a key cog in Thomas Tuchel’s plans, Mount probably would be awarded a significant pay raise once the ownership takeover completes. Either way, his journey at Stamford Bridge looks set to continue.
