According to the Crystal Palace official website, Chelsea loanee Conor Gallagher has been named the club’s Player of the Season 2021/22 by the supporters. The loanee is expected to return to Stamford Bridge this summer after a fruitful season at Selhurst Park.
The 22-year-old was a key player for Crystal Palace, making 36 appearances and scoring eight goals across all competitions. In the process, he was named the club’s Player of the Month twice, won the award for Goal of the Month once, and was the Young Player of the Year at the 2022 London Football Awards.
A third of Palace fans voted him their Player of the Season, making him the 38th player to receive the award since 1972. It’s a well-deserved award for the Chelsea loanee, who has been a key member of Patric Vieira’s team all season. The Eagles are expected to finish mid-table in the Premier League table, a considerable achievement.
The best part of this news is that he will return to Chelsea next season. We can be proud of our loanee, who has proven himself in the Premier League and has become a fan favourite for the Eagles during his loan period.
He is a creative midfielder who has been pulling the strings in midfield for The Glaziers representing them in the Premier League, FA Cup and the Carabao Cup. The experience will serve him well ahead of a potential breakout 2022/23 campaign with Chelsea.
It is difficult to be chosen the fan favourite because fans keep a close check on the player’s performance every week. Football tribalism has made supporters fickle and winning over them is no mean feat. Irrespective of the club, it is something that is prevalent across the game. Gallagher gaining the Palace fans’ favour augurs well for his career.
Thomas Tuchel and the new possible owner would be thrilled to hear the news, and they would have kept a careful eye on his performance to determine his role at Chelsea next season. Young players are sometimes loaned out to smaller clubs to gain experience and return as better players. This appears to be the case with Gallagher.
His return would bring a sigh of relief to the manager, easing the prospect of potentially losing midfield players during the summer transfer window. This loanee has the ability to break into the first squad, and we hope to see him dominating the Blues midfield in the next 2022/23 season.
