Transfer News: Chelsea are set to make an offer for Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic
According to Italian outlet Sportsmediaset (h/t Football London), Chelsea are set to make an offer for soon-to-be free agent Ivan Perisic with the Croatian winger set to leave Inter Milan in the summer when his current contract expires.
Perisic would be a sort of short-term impact signing with the winger already 33-years-old. However, as he has shown this season, the Croatian could offer a lot of experience and may still have a couple of good years left in him.
The former Bayern Munich man has had a very decent season with the Nerazzurri having played 47 games, scoring nine goals and assisting a further eight in this period. Despite his age, Perisic has been performing on a fairly consistent level for Inter, helping them win the Supercoppa Italiana and the Coppa Italia titles this season.
Capable of playing as a left-winger and even a left-wing-back, the Croatian offers the kind of versatility that Tuchel craves. Add to it his understanding of the game and it is clear to see why he is thriving in Serie A.
With Perisic set to leave Inter at the end of the season on a free, the Blues are said to be keen on bringing him to Stamford Bridge and are tipped to make an offer to the Croatian. Adding him to the roster could prove to be a very astute move indeed.
A shrewd signing?
Despite his age, if the Blues sign Perisic on a free, there is the potential that he could turn out to be a very shrewd signing. The Croatian is a low-risk, high output option and might prove to be a game-changer for us next season.
The Blues have struggled with injuries this season that have seen them seriously understaffed in different areas of the field and in Perisic, they will have cover for two positions.
The Croatian would probably be content with a bit-part role at the Bridge as it is very unlikely that the 33-year-old veteran turns out to be a regular starter at the club. He can however offer a great option for Tuchel off the bench.
With the wealth of experience, the Inter Milan winger can also provide some much needed calmness to the dressing room and guide the team through tricky situations. He has been there and done it before for many big clubs around the world and the Blues are no different.
