According to Football.London as quoted by popular Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, the agent of Chelsea target Ousmane Dembele has confirmed that his client’s future still remains open and a decision will be made in due course of time.
The former Rennes man joined Barcelona from Borussia Dortmund in 2017 and has had a very mixed time at the Catalan club. Constantly plagued by injuries in his first four seasons at the Spanish giants, the Frenchman has had a renaissance of sorts this season.
The talented French winger has played 32 games for the Garnet and Blue this season scoring two goals and providing 13 assists across all competitions. Anybody who has seen Dembele play knows that the 25-year-old could be unstoppable on his day and also has a great eye for a pass.
With his contract with Barcelona expiring in the summer, the Frenchman is yet to renew his contract with the Spanish club. Speaking about the situation, the agent of Dembele said:
“Ousmane’s future remains open. We are and have always been very respectful to all clubs and this will continue to be the case while the process is ongoing”. When it is the right time to make a decision, Ousmane will consider the best option for his future”.
As each day passes, it feels like Dembele’s future lies outside Barcelona than in it and that sounds like a good thing for Chelsea. Whether we can take advantage of it remains to be seen.
Although reinforcing our attack is not the key for the Blues, signing a player of Dembele’s quality, that too for free, seems like an offer that is too good to be true. The Frenchman’s talent knows no bounds and he could be a great player for the Blues.
Capable of playing on either wing and maybe even at either wing-back position, the French World Cup winner’s versatility would come in handy for the Blues. Having already played under Thomas Tuchel back in Dortmund, the German manager will know how to get the best out of Dembele.
Although the injury record of the Barcelona man could be a sticking point for the Blues, Dembele well and truly seems to be behind his injury trouble and at 25, Chelsea would be getting the talented winger at the perfect time it seems.
It remains to be seen what happens with Dembele and staying at Barcelona is not impossible. If he is available though, Chelsea must take the chance with the Frenchman.
