Chelsea had to settle for a single point in their latest Premier League outing against Manchester United. The BLues piled the pressure and controlled the possession for the majority of the game. The Stamford Bridge outfit now sits in the third position on the PL table six points above arch-rivals Arsenal.
The West Londoners knocked on the door throughout the game and were finally rewarded for their persistence in the second half. Marcos Alonso broke the deadlock on the day with a scrumptious volley in the 60th minute to put the ball past David de Gea.
The Red Devils were quick to retaliate as Cristiano Ronaldo put the home side on level terms two minutes after that. Chelsea continued to pile the pressure but couldn’t find the end product as Reece James hit a beautiful left-footer in the second half that hit the post and deflected away from goal.
The Blues had a majority of the possession, also taking more shots than their opponents on the night. Kai Havertz missed a great opportunity in the first half when N’Golo Kante put him through with the Spaniard keeper being the only obstacle. That miss summarized our entire day as it could be written off as a game of missed chances.
This game highlights that we need to be more clinical as we head into the latter stages of the season. Maintaining the morale of the players can be a tough task especially after a draining season, filled with uncertainty both on and off the pitch. Hopefully, we take some good form with us in the closing stages and use it as a launchpad for the next campaign.
Thomas Tuchel’s men have had an indifferent run of form recently and we hope that we can manage to turn these performances into victories in the remaining matches. With a top-four finish in the Prem looking secured, we should turn our attention to the FA Cup final which is our only hope for another title in the 2021-22 season.
