Report: Blues ace made his decision on Chelsea future before ownership saga

published :

Antonio Rudiger left Chelsea for Real Madrid last summer.

Transfer Update: Antonio Rudiger made up his mind long before the ownership debacle at Chelsea

According to the Independent (h/t Daily Express), Although the club pointed the finger at the ownership debacle as a problem for not providing a better deal to the German star, Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger decided to leave the club ‘ages ago.’

Antonio Rudiger has been rock solid in the Chelsea backline for five years. The German star even developed himself as one of the best in the world during the last few seasons. Even though this term has been a disappointment by the Blues’ standards, the 29-year-old still delivered world-class performances consistently.

Despite gaining a handful of accolades with the club, the former Roma man’s partnership with Chelsea seems to be closing to an end. He has refused to sign a renewal deal, and it is believed that he would end up in Real Madrid next season.

After Thomas Tuchel confirmed his departure, the club suggested that the ongoing ownership issue limited their power to convince the Germans to stay at the club.

However, it is believed that the Chelsea ownership problems had nothing to do with Rudiger’s intentions to leave the club. That is because the German star made up his mind on an away move ‘ages ago’.

Chelsea tabled a lucrative contract offer with a massive pay raise before the imposed sanctions. But Rudiger and his entourage were not happy with the financial side of the deal.

Time for Chelsea to move on?

Rudiger undoubtedly has been a massive reason for our club’s success under Thomas Tuchel. However, we must remember that the club shouldn’t remain dependent on star players. We win football matches together as a team, and nothing should be considered more significant than that.

Even after Eden Hazard left our club and joined Real Madrid, we managed to rejuvenate our attack with some of the top players in the world. The same should be done in the case of Rudiger.

Even though it wouldn’t be easy to find a like-for-like replacement for the Germans star, our board should sign a top player for the central defensive spot.

As Andreas Christensen is also leaving, signing only one player wouldn’t be enough. We have to go big in the following transfer window in order to lure some of the brightest talents available in the market. But for that, our team should conclude the new ownership choosing process as soon as possible.
