Transfer News: Real Madrid chasing the signature of Chelsea target Aurelien Tchouameni
According to Diario AS as relayed by Madrid Zone on Twitter (h/t Football.London), Real Madrid would be attempting to sign Chelsea target Aurelien Tchouameni after the signing of Antonio Rudiger.
Tchouameni has been sensational for Monaco in recent seasons. The French star’s display this term from the holding midfield position has produced favourable results for his team. Playing 46 matches, he has scored three goals and has given two assists.
His impressive display could be why Chelsea have been interested in signing him. However, the Blues now face a severe threat in the transfer race as Real Madrid are determined to lure the Frenchman to Santiago Bernabeu.
It is believed that Los Blancos are planning to sign Tchouameni after finalising the arrival of Chelsea star Antonio Rudiger, who is set to move away from Stamford Bridge this summer.
What does Real Madrid’s interest mean for Chelsea?
Tchouameni is young and solid in front of the centre-backs, making him one of the most exciting defensive midfielders in France. With N’Golo Kante ageing and putting in subpar performances on a number of occasions this season, the Monaco youngster could become his countryman’s natural successor at Chelsea.
Tchouameni can also pass the ball well and having already made his debut for the senior France team, has international experience under his belt too.
However, Real Madrid’s excessive interest in him suggests that the Blues would be smart to move quick, solve their ownership issues, and open talks with the Frenchman as early as they can- if they are actually keen on signing him this summer.
At the end of the day, the 22-year-old star’s preferences would matter as well. With Jorginho and Kante ageing, and Matteo Kovacic also not a pinned starter in Tuchel’s midfield, Tchouameni can slot into our eleven at times. Conor Gallagher, however, would be one youngster who would also be vying for a similar position in the team this summer.

It remains to be seen how we approach this situation this summer. Madrid also have an ageing midfield with Toni Kroos and Luke Modric not getting any younger. Los Galacticos snapped up another talented French midfielder last year in Eduardo Camavinga and hopefully, for Chelsea fans, they fail in their pursuit of Tchouameni.
