Transfer News: PSG in talks with Chelsea star Romelu Lukaku over potential move
According to the French news outlet But! (h/t The Sun), PSG are currently in talks with Chelsea star Romelu Lukaku regarding a potential move in the summer transfer window. He has largely been disappointing since his return to Stamford Bridge, and his latest setback against Real Madrid adds to the list of things that have gone wrong for him so far.
Lukaku failed to justify the £98million in transfer fees that the Blues paid for him at the start of this season. The attacker has fallen out of favour under Thomas Tuchel, and he could be in line to look for a fresh start elsewhere. His agent is engaged in discussion over a potential move with Leonardo, Paris Saint-Germain’s sporting director.
Kylian Mbappe is nearing the end of his current contract, and he has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid. The French club could require a centre-forward should Mbappe leave, which could pave the way for Lukaku. The English club could facilitate a loan move for their star to free up the wage bill ahead of the next campaign.
Lukaku’s time is up?
Lukaku has failed to showcase the same quality that he had shown at Inter Milan for us. Despite that, one would think that the Belgian may stay past this season since he only joined us last summer. As such, a move to Ligue 1 is difficult to see unless any of the involved parties actively push for a transfer.
That is especially the case when Timo Werner, who has struggled in Blue continues to be given time to turn his fortunes around. The German is a much more mobile player in comparison to Lukaku and despite his poor form is a better fit for our system.
In any case, we have to wait and see how Mbappe’s future in the French capital will turn out to be in the coming months. After all, that could make things even more clear for us when the summer transfer window eventually arrives. That being said, Tuchel would have the final say on the matter, and he must have a clear idea regarding Lukaku moving forward.
Freeing up £325,000-a-week in salaries through Lukaku’s exit would be great for us if he fails to showcase any signs of quality in the coming months. A loan move is touted to be on the cards, but we must recoup as much transfer fee as possible by including a mandatory or optional clause to purchase him.

For a potential transfer to be facilitated, we still need a lot of things to be lined up before we can even think about a move. That seems to be a far fetched case if Tuchel’s recent comments are anything to go by. The boss expressed that he still believes in the attacker to turn his fortunes around moving forward.
So until things become even worse, we may not see more developments on this subject in the coming months.
