Transfer News: Ousmane Dembele has rejected a move to Chelsea
According to journalist Carlo Matallanas (via El Larguero) (via AS) (h/t Football London), Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele has rejected a move to Chelsea.
The London based club made a move for the 25-year-old French winger back in the winter transfer window but a move did not materialise. Any chance they have of revisiting it next summer also appears to have taken a blow.
Since then, the exciting French winger has been exceptional for Barcelona with his performances and has provided the second-most assists after Lionel Messi in the calendar year. Whilst there are talks that he could renew his contract with the Catalan club, he is yet to pen a new deal.
The Blues would have been hoping to tempt Dembele in the summer and convince him to come to Stamford Bridge as a free transfer but it appears that the talented winger has chosen against making a move to the Blues.
Dembele has made 23 appearances for Barcelona this season, scoring two goals and providing 10 assists during this time. He has taken his game to the next level under Xavi and it comes as no surprise that the Blaugrana want to keep him.
A good addition but…
When fit and at his best, Dembele is undoubtedly a unique talent who is capable of producing the unbelievable on a regular basis. He has been in great form of late but that hasn’t always been the case.
The Frenchman struggled with injuries and disciplinary issues during his first four years at Camp Nou and it’s only now that Dembele finally looks like the player Barcelona broke the bank for back in 2017.
Chelsea have Christian Pulisic, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Hakim Ziyech and even Mason Mount who could play on the wings but adding Dembele to the mix, especially on a free would have been a great acquisition.
A reunion with former boss Tuchel was expected to tempt Dembele to Stamford Bridge but it looks like the Frenchman has decided to turn his back on his former manager.

It still is not clear if the winger has decided to stay at Barcelona or move elsewhere but it does look like Chelsea is not one of the options on Dembele’s mind right now.
