According to Italian news outlet Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Football.London), Napoli have expressed an interest in signing Chelsea star Armando Broja ahead of the summer transfer window. He is currently out on a season-long loan at Southampton, where he has enjoyed quite a successful spell so far.
The Italian side have identified Broja as an option to replace Victor Osimhen who is a transfer target for Arsenal and Manchester United. The former has taken this stance after having a “secret meeting” between club chief Aurelio De Laurentiis and Osimhen’s agent Roberto Calenda on Wednesday.
De Laurentiis and Calenda have held talks regarding “an undeniable” €100million transfer bid from Man United for Osimhen. The striker could move to Old Trafford after being tempted by their interests which prompted the Serie A club to turn their attention towards Broja.
We cannot afford to make any more mistakes with our young talents and academy graduates moving forward. After all, the likes of Tammy Abraham, Tino Livramento, Tariq Lamptey, Marc Guehi and Fikayo Tomori, could have helped us a lot at this moment. We would be smart not to add Broja to that list as well, which would be a damning blow indeed.
Broja has earned rave reviews for his displays this term, having scored nine goals alongside an assist from 35 appearances across all competitions. He seems ready to get a spot under Thomas Tuchel, especially when our attack could use some bolstering this summer.
Romelu Lukaku is still struggling with his form, whereas Kai Havertz has had a drop in performance over the past few weeks. Timo Werner has had a resurgence recently, although it is still quite early to say that he can be dependable moving forward.
If that is the case, then Broja can certainly be helpful if his performances for the Saints are anything to go by. He is currently under contract until 2026, which means that there is no need to worry about any interests from elsewhere for now.
Then again, the West Londoners must keep the Albanian happy by giving him first-team minutes from the next campaign onwards. The 20-year-old has warranted some game time, and our issues in the attack give us some reason to try him out in the future.
Luciano Spalletti’s side could prove to be troublesome following Abraham’s success in Italy. As such, Chelsea would do well to not let them gain any sort of solid ground in their pursuit to secure Broja’s services. Whether we can keep hold of the loanee or not remains to be seen.
