Transfer news: Juventus make contact with Chelsea star Jorginho
According to Calciomercato (h/t Football London), Serie A giants Juventus have established contact with Chelsea midfielder Jorginho over a potential move to the Italian club.
Jorginho had a great last season with Chelsea and ended up winning the Champions League as well as the Euros with Italy. The Italian however has been a pale shadow of his former self this season.
Regardless of that, he is still a regular starter at the club and is one of our more established players. His calming influence on the pitch, distribution of the ball and the presence he brings to our midfield is of immense value.
Italian giants Juventus have been interested in the Chelsea midfielder and have made contact with the midfielder’s representatives over a potential move. With his contract set to expire next summer, the Blues could want to cut their losses if he fails to renew a new deal with the club.
Going back home?
Jorginho started off in Italy and made a name for himself playing for Napoli under former Blues boss Maurizio Sarri. A return to his homeland, that too to the best club in the division is undoubtedly a tempting option for the Italian.
Letting Jorginho leave might be detrimental for the Blues considering how much he has to offer to Tuchel’s side. However if the Italian indeed left, there is no doubt that we have options both internally and externally to replace the midfielder.
Conor Gallagher and Billy Gilmour are expected to return next season and are both able options to replace the spot vacated by the Italian midfielder. Chelsea could also make new midfield signings, players who are younger than the Italian to replace him at Stamford Bridge and hence losing Jorginho might not hurt the Blues much.

Gilmour, in particular, is capable of donning the hat for the ‘Jorginho role’ as we have seen when he broke through at Chelsea and if, given the chance, he might just turn out to be the most ideal like-for-like Jorginho replacement.
It still remains to be seen as to what decision Jorginho makes. Right now, it seems like his future lies more outside England than in it.
